OS Setup
Having experience with a Debian based system, Ubuntu was found to be more robust with
the installation than Debian itself, altough only Ubuntu 9.10 Server could be brought
running via an USB memory stick install without any problems (6.06, 8.04, and 10.04 did
not). Downloaded the .iso image here, and
used Ubuntu "Startup Disk Creator" in System > Administration.
Lm-sensors works as well, which is useful to check CPU temperature since there's no fans.
It also registers case temperature.
Server Setup
Installed OpenSSH for maintenance using DSA Keys to login to it and using the shell.
Some issues with unclear manuals, but it basically comes down to creating a DSA key pair
(meaning public and private) on the client on the ~/.ssh directory, and copying the public
key to the user ~/.ssh user directory in a file specified in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the
host (something like authorized_keys). In this case the host is me, and the client the
computer logging in with.
Apache2 was installed and running without a fuzz to host the web server showing this page.
Also running to keep my URL linked to my dynamic IP address is ddclient, with the settings
supplied by DynDNS.com.
